Reviews
Atmosphere is the star of Alpana. The decor is gorgeous.
The brunch menu is also diverse with many options. The winter fruit and arugula salad was delicious, however the short rib hash portion was small.
For coffee, the restaurant cannot do drinks with steamed milk like lattes, cappuccinos etc. I would expect this for this caliber of restaurant.
Likewise the service can be improved. Multiple times our table had to ask for beverage refills (water and coffee) and the server didn't tell us about the menu. Also it would be appreciated if allergen information was printed on the menu.
On the plus side, cinnamon rolls are huge!
Worth a visit especially as the place itself is beautiful.
I am profoundly dissatisfied with the entirety of my dining experience at Alpana on December 1. Our server, a white man with numerous tattoos and an overly sassy demeanor, set a tone of discomfort from the very beginning. His disingenuous approach and blatant disregard for our comfort were evident from the start. Throughout the course of the meal, his demeanor bordered on pushy and peculiar, leaving us feeling far from well-taken care of.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, he forgot to put in one of the dishes we ordered. Throughout the entire meal, he pushed and prodded, creating an environment that was anything but comfortable. Fast forward to the check, and it’s like entering a whole new level of deception. The items listed didn’t match our actual order – he randomly deducted dishes and drinks from our tab. Now, I know how the Toast works; you can’t make a dish without it showing up on the tab. This wasn’t a mistake; it screamed scam. Given my background in the industry, I recognized this as a classic case of someone manipulating the numbers for their own gain.
The climax of this disastrous evening came when my boyfriend urgently paid using Apple Pay. Lo and behold, upon inspecting the digital receipt, it was crystal clear – we were charged for an entirely different check. This wasn’t an accidental mix-up; it was a deliberate act of presenting a discounted check to our table and then charging us for items we never even ordered. The sheer disrespect we faced as guests is beyond comprehension. The dishonesty displayed by this server is nothing short of appalling and entirely unacceptable.
To add insult to injury, I took the initiative to call Alpana, informing them of the incorrect charge. Their response? A promise to call me back. Well, it’s been over a week, and I’ve been met with absolute silence. This lack of regard for a customer’s concerns is downright unacceptable and has pushed me to the brink of frustration. Alpana needs to address this urgently and rectify the situation, or they risk losing the trust and respect of their patrons. The clock is ticking, and their silence is deafeningly disrespectful.
Holy moly this was good! We randomly came here during a short visit to the city and I am so glad we did. There was so many things I wanted to try on this menu!! Seabass is a fav of mine but I also wanted pasta, so my husband and I agreed on getting our own entrees and splitting the squid ink pasta dish. I was not disappointed. I could have licked the plate it was soooo good. My husband said “how do I figure out how to make saffron chili butter sauce?” The seabass was divine as well - the celeriac mash it came with was incredible as was my husbands short rib. The only “compliant” was my seabass was slightly overcooked for my liking.
Service was supurb and the space was magical! It’s a must try if you are in the city and want a special dinner.
Alpana has a great location, a cool vibe, an extensive wine menu, and great food options.
My party chose the vegetarian menu.
Food -
Pros:
- a lot of vegetarian options
- apps, pastas and entrees
- even gluten free if required
Cons
- very heavy on use of mushrooms, atleast from what I ordered the focus was mushrooms
- under whelming, nothing that bursts with flavors or uniqueness
Vegetarian menus - MId.
Best dish - crispy polenta
Service:
This needs to be improved. The taff is still learning, dishes were picked up without asking if we were done. Of course it was crowded and busy night, but focus on staff training.
The chef/ owner was walking the floor, so good to see that.
Go again? Maybe, for the decor and ambiance. But for flavor ( vegetarian) having a pizza would be better.
This place was so close to getting five stars from me. We booked this restaurant through our credit card company and got very excited when we saw the menu. Our server was great. Very knowledgeable about the food and wine selections. For …
Just had dinner here tonight. Staff are lovely and the decor is beautiful. I also appreciate that the dining room is not too loud. I only wish that the food was better, especially for the price. Kale salad was fine. Short rib bourguignon …
I was not impressed. I took my adult son to brunch for his birthday. There was only 1 waiter and 1 server in the entire restaurant on Saturday morning for brunch. A small crowd arrived about 12pm. Still 1 waiter and 1 server, 2 busboys. …
We had a group planned meal here with 4 courses and we had a choice of entree and it was perhaps the best food I have ever had! They were very accommodating for my wife who was gluten free and told her what she could and could not eat with every dish they brought out. It was amazing!
